Home The Comprehensive Plan Existing Zoning Code What's my zoning? Contact Us

The City of Lakewood incorporated in 1969. At the time of incorporation, the City continued to follow the zoning standards of Jefferson County. By 1980, the City of Lakewood adopted its own Zoning Ordinance, changing little of the County Ordinance on which it was based. Since then, the City has amended the document as needed to address changes in the community.

While the existing code was responsive to the circumstances and trends in development in Lakewood for many years, an updated code is now needed in order to reflect new ideas, respond to new conditions, and to support and help implement the City’s Comprehensive Plan.

By revisiting the Zoning Ordinance, our community will be better equipped to address changes in market demand, technology, and business practices while enhancing existing neighborhoods. The revisions to the current document will address community needs, simplify the land use process, and provide for clear and predictable outcomes in line with Lakewood’s Comprehensive Plan.
